Sri Lanka have been hit by a COVID-19 case with veteran Angelo Matthews removed from the Galle Test against Australia after contracting the virus.
Mathews was tested on day two of the match after reporting he was feeling unwell, with the result coming back positive.
Under the ICC's COVID-19 policy, Mathews has been replaced by top-order batter Oshada Fernando.
"Accordingly (Mathews) has been isolated from the rest of the team members and is following COVID-19 protocols," Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
It is the first time a COVID substitute has been enacted in a Test involving Australia, despite several scares in the last home summer.
One of Sri Lanka's most reliable batters, Mathews will still be available for the second Test starting on Friday after he completes five days of isolation.
The rest of Sri Lanka's squad has not been tested since Mathews' case was confirmed.
Protocols only allowed for players to be tested if they present with symptoms.
Mathews' case is the first on the tour.
Australia's coach Andrew McDonald missed the start of the tour with the virus and he was a late arrival in Sri Lanka.
While tested in match if they feel unwell, Australia's players have also been completing daily rapid antigen tests on non-match days.
They are also tested before they leave the hotel on those days, and only leave the set-up with security ensuring there is no close contact with others.
