If you hold any affection for iconic 90s teen rom-com She's All That, for the love of Freddie Prinze Jr, do not watch He's All That.
Netflix's new gender-swapped remake of the cheesy but beloved high school flick is mind-numbingly atrocious.
Most people would have expected this remake to be bad - especially given it features a TikTok star (Addison Rae) as its lead - but it manages to be even worse than anticipated.
Just like the original, He's All That finds a popular high schooler, Padgett Sawyer (Rae) - perhaps less conceited than Prinze's Zack - making a bet to turn a member of the unpopular crowd, Cameron Kweller (Tanner Buchanan, Cobra Kai), into the prom king.
Of course the bet is predicated on the subject not knowing that his newfound friendship is built on a lie.
In making He's All That a 2021 film, it is filled to the brim with social media and influencers and content creators.
It's frankly exhausting and depressing to endure all that shallowness that in our real lives, and then again on screen. It is also jam-packed with product placement, from branded water bottles to Pizza Hut, headphones and more. He's All That is basically the film equivalent of a social media app.
Where the original featured a host of supporting actors who'd go on to big things - Paul Walker, Anna Paquin, Kieran Culkin, Gabrielle Union, Clea DuVall, Dule Hill - He's All That is filled with quite mediocre acting performances.
The only saving graces are some impressive costumes and a wonderful cameo appearance by She's All That star Matthew Lillard as the principal.
Even the original's Laney Boggs herself - Rachel Leigh Cook - is uninspired and wasted in the remake.
However, easily the worst part of the film is the writing. There are so many god-awful lines it's hard to just highlight a few, but the worst offender has to be: "you don't deserve my croquembouche, you croquem-douche".
Other horrid lines include "this place is real, just like horses" and "my mother's a nurse - I've never told anybody that before".
He's All That isn't even so-bad-it's-good. It's just so-bad-it's-so-bad.
