Sweet Girl is going to be divisive.
The new action thriller on Netflix takes a pretty sizeable risk with its big reveal, and that's definitely going to put some people offside.
But, if you're willing to go along with its twist (and you're a fan of action movies), you'll probably like Sweet Girl.
The film stars Game of Thrones' very own Khal Drogo, Jason Momoa, as loving husband and father Ray Cooper. His wife, Amanda, is dying from cancer and the family are struggling to pay for her medical bills.
As her condition worsens, there's a sign of hope - a company is producing the drug she needs to stay alive under a generic brand which will be considerably cheaper.
But just as quickly as their hopes were raised they're dashed again - the pharmaceutical juggernaut which manufactures the expensive drug Amanda is currently being treated with pays off the other brand to indefinitely delay their drug's release, effectively sentencing Amanda to her death.
When Amanda passes, Ray promises he's going to track down and kill the head of the pharmaceutical company for allowing his wife to die.
But he's got a teen daughter, Rachel (the incredible Isabela Merced, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Instant Family), to take care of and that has to take priority.
Of course, this being an action movie, things do not go to plan, and the Coopers find themselves on the run and seeking revenge. A hitman, played by The Magnificent Seven's Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, is hot on their tails.
The film is a condemnation of the power of pharmaceutical companies which turn healthcare into a luxury only the wealthy can afford, and the political machinations which allow it to happen (through donor dollars).
The action is pretty decent, and Momoa cuts an imposing figure. But his best work comes in the softer moments, playing a grieving husband and frustrated father.
Merced continues to show her skill as an actress with another demanding role. She has a lot to wrangle with as Rachel (sometimes literally) and she never cowers in the shadow of her co-star.
If you can get on board with the reveal, there's a great chance you'll be a fan of Sweet Girl - an action film with a message.
