Pat Cummins bowled impressively again but it proved too little too late for the Australian paceman's Kolkata Knight Riders outfit in the Indian Premier League as they lost by seven wickets to Prithvi Shaw-inspired Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad.
Earlier on Thursday in New Delhi, reigning champions Mumbai Indians were also rewarded with a seven-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals, thanks to fine bowling from Jasprit Bumrah and a matchwinning knock from Quinton de Kock.
Delhi's clinical win lifted them to 10 points to share lead at the top of the table with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, but Kolkata will rue not having thrown the ball to Cummins earlier in their match.
Opening batsman Shaw's six fours off paceman Shivam Mavi's opening over of the run-chase helped Delhi cruise to 3-156 in 16.3 overs as the right-hander went on to make a blistering 82 off 41 balls.
By the time captain Eoin Morgan turned towards the experience of Cummins in the sixth over, Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan had already piled 66 runs in five overs and taken the game well beyond Kolkata, who had made 6-154 largely off the back of a brisk, unbeaten 45 from Andre Russell.
Cummins went on to pick up 3-24, but not before Shaw and Dhawan had put on 132 for the first wicket - their second century stand in this season's IPL.
Cummins also trapped Dhawan lbw off a low full toss and then dismissed Shaw and captain Rishabh Pant in his last over.
Shaw hit 11 fours and three sixes before he spliced a catch at point while Pant holed out at long-on boundary while going for a winning boundary.
In New Delhi, fast bowler Bumrah (1-15) was brilliant with both the new and old ball to help restrict Rajasthan to 4-171 after Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field.
Chris Morris, Rajasthan's multi-million dollar signing, picked up 2-33, but de Kock, with an unbeaten 70, was always in control as he steered Mumbai to 3-172 with nine balls to spare.
The South African, who had struggled for runs in the first leg of the tournament in Chennai, finally found his form as he smashed a 15th IPL half-century that featured six fours and two sixes.
Krunal Pandya (39) had added 63 with de Kock for the third-wicket before he was bowled by Mustafizur Rahman in the 17th over.
But de Kock sealed the game with two boundaries against the Bangladesh left-arm fast bowler in the penultimate over.
Earlier, Jos Buttler had posted 41 off 32 balls and given Rajasthan a platform, but Trent Boult clean bowled captain Sanju Samson (42) in the 18th over before Bumrah had Shivam Dube (35) caught off his own bowling off a low full toss.
