Matt Moylan claims he still has plenty to offer in the NRL as the Cronulla playmaker admits he is now preparing for the most important year of his career.
Sharks coach John Morris confirmed on Thursday that Moylan would get first crack at five-eighth in 2021, with Shaun Johnson to miss the first two months of the season.
But where Moylan ends up after that remains a mystery, with the 29-year-old off contract as significant questions have been asked about his future.
The former Penrith star has played just 19 games in the past two years, and has failed to live up to the hype that accompanied his arrival.
He was dropped from Cronulla's side at the end of last season, with Morris concerned Moylan's injuries were limiting his performances.
The former NSW State of Origin representative has since altered his strength program and worked closely with sprint coach Roger Fabri.
Under Fabri's watch, Moylan claims this has been his best pre-season at Cronulla, insistent he can get back to his sparkling best and that he's far from done.
"Yeah, 100 per cent (I have more to offer)," Moylan said.
"I'm not worried about that. I've put work in now that I feel like I have a good foundation and base to build off.
"Obviously a bit of work to do but I'm pretty confident in what I've done so far."
Morris revealed on Thursday the likely plan would be for Moylan to start at No.6.
Then once Johnson returns from his snapped achilles tendon, a return to fullback is an option for Moylan.
"If Matt can get off to a real good start and can get a number of games there at six, I'm sure you know you could slot him right in at fullback," Morris said.
"He's had a fantastic pre-season, which is really pleasing, given the challenges he had last year.
"He's trained nearly every session, and is absolutely flying."
Performing anywhere in the spine will be key for Moylan's future.
The playmaker's $800,000-a-year deal is up this year, and he has previously been shopped around to rivals without success.
But Moylan is confident he can recapture the form that made him one of the best players in the NRL.
"I would say (it's my most important year)," Moylan said.
"Coming off the back of the last few years where I've had probably obviously two down years where I' haven't been able to put a full season together.
"I think it's pretty important that I can bank a fair few games this year and play some good footy."
