Thirty people have been evacuated from the Narellan Pools factory site in Picton this afternoon following a fire.

More than 30 firefighters were on scene at Henry Street to battle the blaze, which started shortly after 2pm.

A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman on the scene told the Advertiser shortly after 3pm that the fire had been contained.

He said the blaze was not in the main building of the business.

"The fire was external to the main facility, in a storage facility outside," he said.

"It has been destroyed. Firefighters are trying to cool it down now.

"We don't have any contamination to the environment."

Twelve fire trucks were on scene to battle the inferno, including representatives from the RFS, as well as NSW Police and NSW Ambulance.

The spokesman said there were no injuries and no one required any treatment.

The fire caused large plumes of black smoke to blanket the area in Picton and motorists were urged to avoid the area.
