It's official - Shade Australia is Campbelltown's business of the year.

The Ingleburn-based business which sells umbrellas, tents and shade sails was last week named the 2020 Campbelltown Local Business Awards business of the year in a glamorous night at Wests Leagues Leumeah.

The event - which is run by Precendent Productions and supported by the Advertiser - was a little different to past years given Covid restrictions, with the crowd significantly reduced to ensure everyone could enjoy the night in safety.

Shade Australia director Andy McLeod said the award win was a wonderful thing to celebrate as a business.

"It's a pretty darn good feeling," he said. "We didn't expect to win, there were a lot of really competitive businesses there. But we worked so hard to do a great job for our customers - the win is so good for the team. It was a bit strange being at a ceremony this year that had about 100 people when last year there was 400, but they put in all the right measures and it was really good. It's just a new world out there."

Mr McLeod said Shade Australia's number one rule was to listen to and engage with customers, to ensure they could provide exactly the right product for them.

"I started Shade Australia 20 years ago this year, and we've come to a pretty specialised niche with the business, supplying umbrellas to domestic situations and commercial umbrellas to breweries and wineries and the like," he said. "We focus so heavily on doing a great job for our customers and it shows - we've got 1000 five-star reviews on TrustPilot."

Mr McLeod thanked Precedent Productions and Wests Leagues for putting on a special, "empowering" night.
