A West Australian man is facing animal cruelty and firearm charges after allegedly shooting his neighbour's dog dead when it wandered into his front yard.
A WA Police spokesman allege the 49-year-old Jurien Bay man killed the red cloud kelpie-cross-doberman about midday on Sunday.
"[The dog] named Splinter had wandered onto the man's Jurien Bay Vista property," a police spokesperson said.
"As the owner called the dog back, the man exited his property via the front door and shot the dog with a rifle."
Splinter was rushed to Dongara Veterinary Clinic but died before arriving.
The police spokesman said a haul of firearms, ammunition and drug paraphernalia was recovered after officers executed a search warrant at the neighbour's house.
The man was charged with numerous offences include animal cruelty, possessing an unlicensed firearm, purchasing a firearm or ammunition without a licence, failing to provide adequate storage for firearms, discharging a firearm to cause danger or fear to the public and possessing drug paraphernalia.
He is due to appear in Geraldton Magistrates Court on September 3.
