Perth's prized recruit Beth Mooney is ready for the WBBL schedule to change at short notice as she waits for the International Cricket Council to make a call on next year's World Cup.
Mooney, the world's top-ranked Twenty20 batter, has joined the Scorchers on a two-year deal.
The WBBL is due to start on October 17, however Cricket Australia (CA) has made it clear that fixtures might be altered depending on how the COVID-19 pandemic develops.
"That's all up in the air. The most important thing is for teams across the country to be as flexible as we can," Mooney told reporters.
"I'm expecting that things will change - and change pretty quickly if that is the case.
"But hopefully, our first game in Perth is still in Perth; I'm really looking forward to that."
The prospect of games being held in Melbourne, as is scheduled, looks particularly doubtful at the moment.
The AFL and NRL continue to negotiate the logistical nightmare created by border closures and quarantine periods.
The challenge for CA will potentially be even more immense given it plans on international stars being part of the world's premier women's T20 league.
Hubs for domestic cricket - both women's and men's - will also be an incredibly expensive exercise without delivering the same broadcast revenue generated by Australia's premier football codes.
Meanwhile, Mooney remains unsure whether next year's one-day World Cup will take place in February-March as planned.
Administrators, having made a call a week ago on the men's T20 World Cup, are yet to decide on the women's showpiece tournament in New Zealand.
"There's a lot of things up in the air," Mooney said.
"That series (against New Zealand in September-October) is a high priority for us to be playing, as is the one-day World Cup.
"If things keep progressing like they are in New Zealand, hopefully that goes ahead, but we don't know much.
"The situation is always changing. We have to prepare as if it is happening."
The opener scored a record 259 runs to be named player of the tournament during Australia's T20 World Cup triumph earlier this year.
