Macarthur pop-up wedding business hopes to take pressure off brides and grooms

Polly Grundy's experience helping her son to plan his wedding made her determined to make it easier on other husbands and wives to be.

The Macquarie Fields resident wanted to do something to relieve some of the financial pressure on newlyweds.

That's when Ms Grundy came up with the idea for Polly's Pop-Up Weddings.

"My youngest son was married last year, and we found that as soon as the word 'wedding' was introduced into the conversation everything seemed to double in price," she said.

"It was frustrating to feel somewhat taken advantage of.

"After his wedding, I looked around and realised there was a real need for something in that space that was more affordable yet still beautiful.

"It was then I realised I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by some pretty talented people.

"My eldest son owns his own media company, my brother Franc has travelled the world and has over 25 years of event management experience and my partner Brian is an award-winning celebrant with incredible knowledge of all things wedding."

Polly's Pop-Up Weddings venues are all local Macarthur businesses including Upstairs @ Freds, Campbelltown City Bowls Club, Bar Centrale, Wizard of Oz Funland and Antill Country Golf Club with negotiations under way for at least another four more options.

Ms Grundy said all of her pop-up weddings were under $10,000 and included all the trimmings such as a wedding coordinator, venue, ceremony, celebrant, arbor, photographer and photos, catering, cake and more.

"Many of us in the Macarthur and broader south-west Sydney region don't have huge disposable incomes.

"I've heard of parents taking out second mortgages to fund their children's wedding.

"[We have] ensured that all the 'wedding trimmings' are still there for your event.

"Things like the ceremonial arbour, table centrepieces and bonbonniere - you don't need smoke machines and fireworks to make your day amazing.

"The most important thing needed at a wedding is love and that's what brings real fireworks to a wedding day."
