CONSIDER YOUR OPTIONS: VET training can open the door on a first career or pave the way to a job change.

So your school life is coming to an end and perhaps you're perhaps feeling a little lost on what your options are.

It's a scenario you're surely not alone in, but have you considered the vocational education and training sector?

A spokesman for the Federal Minister for Employment, Skills, Small and Family Business said the vocational education and training (VET) sector in Australia was world class.

"With an amazing array of career paths available, completing a VET course or an apprenticeship has been the first choice of many Australians who are in their dream job," he said.

"With such a huge variety of course and careers available, from aerospace, to agriculture, building and construction, business and finance, education, engineering, health, hospitality and information technology, a career based on VET sector training holds enormous possibilities.

"VET training can open the door on a first career or provide the way for someone to jump to a new career.

"There is funding available from the Australian Government to help students start a VET course today."

Young people, aged 15-24, may also apply for a scholarship to undertake an eligible VET Approved Program of Study at the Certificate III to Advanced Diploma level. The scholarships are valued at up to $17,500 each.

Last year the Government announced a $525 million Skills Package to boost the Vocational Education and Training sector.
