A strong performance with the ball has Queensland well placed in their quest to lock up a spot in next week's one-day cup final after restricting Tasmania to a relatively modest tally at Bellerive Oval on Monday.
Tasmania were bowled out for 223 off the final ball of their 50 overs, after being sent in to bat by Queensland on a green wicket under cloudy skies in Hobart.
It could have been far worse for the Tigers who were reduced to 4-40 before their middle and lower order gave their bowlers something to defend.
Tasmania, who need a bonus point win to keep their unlikely final hopes alive, were indebted to a 76-run stand for the seventh wicket between James Faulkner (30) and Gurinder Sandhu (51).
It took an unlikely scenario to break the partnership with Sandhu, having comfortably posted his highest one-day score, failing to ground his bat after cruising through for a third run.
Rookie Mac Wright posted 46 and former Queenslander Simon Milenko hit 36 as the Bulls failed to maintain their early dominance.
Opening bowler Mark Steketee did the early damage, finishing with 3-33 from his 10 overs, while Xavier Bartlett chimed in with 3-59.
A victory will see Queensland finish top of the standings to earn hosting rights against Western Australia in the final scheduled for November 26.
