Grab your pitchforks and torches, Shrek the Musical is coming to Sydney.
The stage show is based on the exceptionally popular 2001 film Shrek, an unlikely fairytale about an ogre and his talking donkey pal who must rescue a cursed princess.
The production at the Sydney Lyric Theatre stars a host of talented Australian performers in the roles we all know and love.
Actor and singer Ben Mingay (best known for his roles on Wonderland and House of Hancock) is going green as the titular ogre Shrek, while popular stage star Lucy Durack (from Wicked, Legally Blonde The Musical and more) plays Princess Fiona.
Former Dancing with the Stars judge and The Boy From Oz performer Todd McKenney will appear as Lord Farquaad while former Australian Idol judge and iconic singer Marcia Hines is playing the dragon.
Shrek the Musical producer John Frost said it was a coup to have such a wonderfully talented cast on stage.
"I'm thrilled with the superb cast we have assembled for Shrek the Musical, led by Ben, Lucy, Todd, Nat [Jobe] and Marcia," he said.
"I fell in love with the show when I saw it on Broadway and was bowled over by the way audiences responded to the social issues it covers - themes like friendship, acceptance, discrimination, inclusiveness and 'don't judge a book by its cover'.
"It's a genuine Broadway smash hit and so funny as well as touching, appealing to everyone from five to 105.
"I know Australia is going to fall in love with Shrek the Musical as much as I did."
The stage production features 19 songs, big laughs, great dancing and breathtaking scenery.
The show has received eight Tony Award nominations and even a Grammy Award nomination for best musical show album.
The Sydney production will run throughout January 2020, with performances running Wednesdays-Sundays. Tickets start at $49.90 from ticketmaster.com.au.
