Buxton couple's garden paradise wins top nod at council awards

Michele and James Jackson have spent the past three years perfecting their outdoor oasis - and all of their hard work has finally paid off.

The Buxton couple won Wollondilly Council's garden competition grand champion award.

Their garden features an electic collection of statues, water features, plants and plenty of lush greenery.

Mrs Jackson said it took her three years to perfect her sprawling backyard.

"This is the fourth time we have entered but the first time that we have won the grand champion award," she said.

"It took us years to get the garden where we wanted to be and now we have won the grand prize."

Mrs Jackson describe the garden as a "paradise".

"Once you see it, you won't want to leave," she said.

"It has a really good feel to it and there is plenty to look at.

"You could visit five or six times and still not see everything."

The avid gardener said some of her favourite parts of the garden included statues.

"I have a section with sheep statues and a farmer sheering sheep and we've also done a little fairy garden," Mrs Jackson said.

"We have a lot of different animal statues in the garden like apes, tigers and rabbits.

"I love art and I like to think of each little section as a piece of artwork with the statue at the centre."

Mrs Jackson said she often spent time in the garden after a busy day at work.

"I am very privileged to have lights throughout the garden so I can work late into the night if I want to," she said.

"It helps me to unwind after a long day."

Mrs Jackson encouraged other locals to consider entering the council run competition.

"It's a great way to get your garden up to where you want it to be," she said.

"I used the competition to help me accomplish everything I wanted in the garden."
