Ellen knew at 14 years old that Gordon Holland was going to be her husband.
Dutchy, as he's better known, was about to turn 15 and his now wife said they "both knew from the beginning".
The Gilead residents will celebrate their 60th anniversary on Thursday.
Mrs Holland said there was no wedding when they were married, because Dutchy was about to go off to war as an 18-year-old.
"It made no difference to us though," she said.
"We were married and that's all that mattered."
Mrs Holland said the secret to their long and successful marriage was taking care of each other and "being each other's friend".
Mr Holland said it was always important to "make up after an argument", or a "discussion", as his wife calls them.
The couple are proud parents to four children ("three girls and a boy"), 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
"It's lovely having a big family around," Mrs Holland said. "It's amazing watching them all grow up."
