Third place Switzerland pulled themselves one point behind second place Denmark in Euro 2020 qualifying group D as they crushed Gibraltar 4-0 on Sunday.
Denmark stumbled to a 0-0 draw in Georgia and have played one more match than the Swiss, who also have a game in hand on group leaders Ireland, three points ahead.
Denis Zakaria headed home Granit Xhaka's corner in the 37th minute to put Switzerland ahead, the first of three goals in a sudden burst before half-time.
Admir Mehmedi nodded in the second and Ricardo Rodriguez drove a low effort home from distance to put Switzerland firmly in control.
Substitute Mario Gavranovic added the fourth in the later stages after the ball popped up for him in the box, completing the hosts's rout.
In group F Romania moved provisionally second, with a 1-0 win over Malta.
The hosts dominated the first half but only struck after the interval, with George Puscas powering home a header. Spain face the Faroe Islands and Sweden, third, play Norway later on Sunday.
Armenia beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-2 to leapfrog their opponents and move third in Group J.
Skipper Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored two and set up two more for the hosts, while Bosnia coach Robert Prosinecki resigned after the game.
"I came with the goal of qualifying Bosnia and Herzegovina for the European Championship," said Prosinecki.
"Our chances are not completely lost, but I feel responsible and I resign."
Group leaders Italy are due to meet second-placed Finland later on Sunday.
