Well-known comedian Arj Barker's career is fuelled by the joy of making people laugh.
Barker will bring his We Need To Talk show to the Bargo Sports Club on Thursday, September 5.
And he promises to make sure you have a good time.
"My number one priority is to be funny," Barker said.
"People want to have a laugh, no matter what your message is. I'm not a motivational speaker - I never forget about my job.
"There is an excitement that comes from making a room full of people laugh. You get an adrenaline rush, a thrill from being on stage."
The Californian native has been on the world comedy circuit for close to three decades.
Barker has starred on the hit HBO sitcom Flight of the Conchords and appeared on Australian shows including The Project.
He has also been a regular at major events such as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The 45-year-old said the key to his success had been maintaining "mindfulness" while performing.
"Every comedian is different. But the key for me is being aware of what you are saying and how you are saying it," Barker said.
"It's like method acting. You focus on what you're saying."
Barker said he was grateful for his loyal fans' support during his career.
"I am thankful, it's been amazing," he said.
"I am very lucky and never take this [career] for granted."
Arj Barker will perform at the Bargo Sports Club on September 5 at 6pm.
Tickets are $44 per person.
Barker said it would be his first visit to Bargo, but he had driven past the region on the Hume Highway many times.
"I am excited, I've heard a lot about Bargo," he said.
The comedian invited everyone to come down to next month's show and have a "fun night".
Barker said his show aimed to provide laughs from the start to end.
"I assure you that you will laugh a lot," he said.
"We will get a great audience there and have a great time."
