Tigers the last hoodoo for Lions in 2019

Brisbane are hoping they can overcome recent form against Richmond and finish the season with a win.

They've been the AFL's hoodoo gurus in 2019 and there's one last streak Brisbane are out to snap before their first finals campaign in a decade.

Brisbane travel to the MCG on Sunday hoping to end a 12-game losing run to the Tigers stretching back to round 13, 2010.

That record doesn't get any better when you realise the Lions have only ever won once in nine matches against the Tigers at the MCG.

However, defying history has been the recurring theme for Brisbane as they've climbed to the top of the AFL ladder with just one round to play.

Already this year the Lions have snapped an 11-game losing run to Sydney, defeated West Coast and Geelong after eight successive defeats and claimed their first win in seven matches against North Melbourne and GWS.

"I think we're really embracing these challenges or hoodoos or whatever you want to call them," forward Lincoln McCarthy said.

"It's another motivating factor for us.

"If we haven't beaten a side for so long, it's just another challenge and we'll see how we go."

A 17th win in a remarkable campaign would also secure the minor premiership and two home finals.

The Lions can however still finish outside the top two if heavily beaten by the Tigers and West Coast claim a big win over Hawthorn.

McCarthy said that after putting themselves in the position to secure a top-two finish it would be disappointing to come up short.

"We'd love to have a home final here at the Gabba," McCarthy said.

"It was amazing just having a sellout on Saturday against Geelong, having the fans there and the crowd was up and about.

"That's amazing what that can do for our confidence and it really drives our game home.

"It would be awesome but we've got a massive game in Richmond this weekend and they're going to be hard to beat."
