Picton gymnasts prepare for world class experience

Thirty of Macarthur's most talented gymnasts are ready to impress on the world's biggest stage.

Picton club Gymtastic Kids will send a strong contingent of young stars to the 2019 World World Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn, Austria.

They will be part of an Australian team of 300 gymnasts who will fly out on Tuesday for the week-long event, which begins on July 7.

More than 25,000 gymnasts from over 60 countries will flock to the World Gymnaestra, which is the globe's biggest gymnastics exhibition.

The gymnaestra is held every four years and is a colourful, non-competitive event that focuses on group performances.

Gymtastic Kids coach Sheryl Faulkner said it was the first time the Picton club had taken part in the World Gymnaestra.

Faulkner said this year's event theme was "Come together, show your colours" and there would be some impressive displays.

"It's like a big festival and there will be more than 200,000 spectators," she said.

"It's something mind blowing, like a Cirque du Soleil performance."

Faulkner said it would be an unforgettable experience for her students.

"The students will stay in a school dormitory and will be immersed in the culture of Austria," she said.

"Our aim is to grow the children, socially, emotionally and gymnastically. We want to expand their minds."

Gymtastic Kids will hold a farewell performance for the local community this Sunday before departing for Australia.

The event is being held as a thank you for everyone who has donated towards their trip and will be held at Wollondilly Leisure Centre from 4pm.
