Narellan Sports Hub has fast become Macarthur's go-to destination for state and championship level netball events.

Narellan's premier sporting facility is about to undergo a massive makeover.

Stage two of the popular facility is a step closer to reality with Camden councillors accepting a tender for the design of the expansion.

Council successfully secured funding from the Western Sydney Parkland City Liveability Program and the Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund for the design and construction of the next stage earlier this year.

Camden mayor Theresa Fedeli said it was exciting to take the first step into the facility's expansion.

"Narellan Sports Hub is already such a fantastic state-of-the-art facility and the next phase will truly make it the sporting home in the Camden area," Cr Fedeli said.

"The sports hub has already hosted state netball and hockey titles and when stage two is complete, it will become a venue other sporting organisations look at to host bigger events with athletics and rugby league facilities in the plans amongst many other exciting things.

"This is just the beginning of great things for our state-of-the-arts facility and I am looking forward to seeing the final design."

The $17.3 million second stage will include the construction of 14 additional netball courts, an extended rugby league field, 1.5 kilometre walking and cycling track, floodlighting, internal roadways, additional parking and a dedicated athletics facility.

The athletics facility will feature an eight-lane, 400-metre synthetic track, two 10-lane 100-metre sprint tracks, a shotput circle, three high jumps and a javelin area, a hammer/discus cage and four long jump/triple jump pits.

The facility currently features 30 netball courts, amenities building, playground, access roads and 400 car parking spaces.

CHRISP Consulting Pty Ltd was selected to design the second stage of the facility.

The design consultancy works are expected to be completed in early 2020 with construction works tipped to begin in the middle of next year.

"Back in 2014, we developed a vision to establish a regional sports hub to meet increasing demands and to take advantage of sports development opportunities," Cr Fedeli said.

"Council is committed to providing our residents with the highest quality sport and recreation facilities, which is why we've liaised so closely with key sporting groups and residents as part of this process."

Stage two of the sports hub is expected to be completed in May 2021.

The first stage of Narellan Sports Hub was opened in October 2017.

Both the federal and state governments have contributed funding to the project.
