Wollondilly businesses nab top nods: Photos

The who's who of the Wollondilly business community came together last night to celebrate the 2019 Local Business Awards.

Hundreds of business owners and supporters packed the Bargo Sports Club to see who would nab the top awards.

This year's big winners were Mandy and Chris Barnes from Bargo's Kalinya Gardens.

The duo took out the Business of the Year award for their high-end accommodation and function venue.

Mrs Barnes said she was humbled by the win.

"I think I got so excited because this isn't just a win for us, it's a win for all of the businesses that help to make our place the best it can be," she said.

"From the caterer and the yoga teacher to our maintenance workers and construction team, the award is for everyone who has helped us along the way."

The stunning estate comprises of two luxury colonial homesteads, 17m swimming pool, tennis court and more and is set on over 5 acres of picturesque award winning gardens crafted from Ms Barnes' passion for design.

"I love design and we have had some wonderful people bring my ideas to life," she said.

"I am a clinical psychologist so I wanted to create a space where people can build relationships and happy memories.

"We have put a lot of effort into the gardens and creating those spaces where people can enjoy a meal or a glass of wine while the children play on the swings.

"We wanted to create a magical place where people can enjoy each other's company."

Kalinya Gardens also won the Tourism and Accommodation award.

"I think a lot of people didn't recognise the shire as a tourism destination because it's a little bit unknown - it's often seen as a place you drive through to get somewhere else," Ms Barnes said.

"But it's a wonderful place full of so many different people.

"We love living here and once we get people down here they always come back."

This year's Businesswoman of the Year was Susan Hall from Hall's Conveyancing while Geoff Eagles from Elders Real Estate, Picton took home the Businessman of the Year award.
