Man charged over alleged shooting in Ambarvale

A man will face court today after he was charged over an alleged shooting in Ambarvale early Sunday morning.

The boy, 17, was walking with friends near the intersection of Woodhouse Drive and Jaggers Place after leaving a party between midnight and 12.15am on Sunday, May 19 when he was shot.

The teenager was rushed to Campbelltown Hospital and treated for a gunshot wound to the right upper arm.

The injury is not life-threatening. He was was later transferred to Liverpool Hospital to undergo surgery.

Campbelltown Police Area Command officers attended the hospital where they spoke with the youth and police launched an investigation.

A 20-year-old man was arrested about 10.30am yesterday (Monday, May 20) and taken to Campbelltown Police Station.

He was charged with using a firearm to injure a person and for the possession of a prohibited pistol.

Police allege the 20-year-old man accidentally shot the pistol, with a bullet striking the 17-year-old boy in the arm.

The man was refused bail to appear in Campbelltown local court today (Tuesday, May 21).
