Seven Macarthur youngsters are ready to challenge some of the nation's best gymnasts.

Mitchell Sewell, Owen Gilbert, Troy Sitkowski, Lauren and Emily Anderson, Hayden Brown and Ephraim Agoo will compete at the 2019 Australian Gymnastics Championships.

The locals will represent NSW at the two-week tournament at Melbourne Arena, which begins on Monday, May 20.

Mitchell, of Harrington Park, is preparing for his first national championships. The 10-year-old will compete in the level seven under-13s boys category.

Mitchell told the Advertiser that he expected a tough competition.

"I've competed at state level for the last two or three years now but am stepping up now," he said.

"I am very excited and hope to get a top eight finish."

Mitchell took up gymnastics four years ago and has shown great dedication to the sport.

The Sewells travels to Rooty Hill six times a week so Mitchell can train at the Gymnastics NSW High Performance Centre (HPC).

Mitchell's dad Trent Sewell said his family was happy to support Mitchell.

"He trains for four hours a day, six days a week so it's a big commitment," he said.

"It involves lots of driving so there is a lot of parent commitment too."
