Campbelltown MP Greg Warren has urged Campbelltown residents to make an official submission in relation to a development proposal in Gilead.

The proposed 424 residential lot subdivision, is on public exhibition until Monday, May 27, 2019.

Mr Warren has numerous concerns about the proposed sub-division which is stage one of a controversial housing estate destined to have 1700 home sites once fully developed.

Scores of residents from Gilead and surrounding suburbs attempted to prevent rezoning of the land during a three-day Land and Environment Court hearing last year, but lost the case.

Gilead is a rural suburb located located between Campbelltown and Appin known for the Mt Gilead farming property, which has links to the Macarthur family (the namesakes of the region).

A site of particular heritage value at Mount Gilead is an almost 200-year-old windmill.

Mr Warren has lodged an submission himself which addresses the need to protect local flora and fauna, the urgency regarding upgrades to Appin Road and potential issues around public transport.

"The state government's refusal to upgrade Appin Road from a single-lane road to a dual carriageway could also have a significant impact on residents - both new and existing," Mr Warren said.

"It's also crucial that any new residents also have access to basic services like public transport.

"Residents in Macarthur Heights are still to have a bus service established in their estate and it would be unacceptable for the state government to treat other residents in new estates with the same contempt.
