A batch of $50 bank notes circulating through Australia's cash economy have a couple of spelling errors in the fine print.

The Reserve Bank of Australia has confirmed the word "responsibility" was misspelt repeatedly on each note before they entered circulation last year.

The word "responsibility" is incorrectly spelled "responsibilty" - without the third "i".

An anonymous tipster alerted radio stations to the typo on the bank note.

It appears to have escaped attention since 46 million of them were rolled out in October 2018.

The total value of the misprinted notes is $2.3 billion.

A spokesperson for the bank on Friday said the error would be corrected at the next print run.
