Douglas Park is home to a rising athletics star.

Halo Keays is only six years old but has already secured a gold medal.

Halo finished first in the under-7s girls category at the Little Athletics NSW State Combined Events Championships in Dubbo earlier this month.

Athletes competed in six disciplines - shot put, discus, long jump, and 50-metre, 100-metre and 500-metre running events.

Participants accumulated points from each discipline, with Halo finishing on top of the leaderboard.

The Wilton Public School student's mum Renee Keays said her daughter enjoyed strong performances across the two-day event.

"Halo was up against 40 other girls and she did so well," she said.

"She is a pretty good athlete."

Halo has entered her first season with the Douglas Park Little Athletics Club.

Keays said her daughter loved the opportunity to run.

"Halo works hard and wants to see other kids do little athletics too," she said.
