The Campbelltown-Camden Ghosts fell agonisingly short of victory in their round 12 clash with Fairfield Liverpool on the weekend.

The Lions’ 12-run win at Raby Oval was set up by a dogged batting display after rain delayed the start of play on Saturday.

Yuvraj Sharma (45) and Wendel Delpechitra (39) helped the visitors set a total of 187.

The two Lukes – Courtney and Webb – led the Ghosts’ bowling attack.

Luke Courtney took 4/59 off 20 overs while Luke Webb picked up 3/43 off 21 overs.

Wicketkeeper Oliver Robinson took five catches and also managed a stumping.

The Lions bowlers did the job on Sunday, reducing the Ghosts to 4/16 before the hosts battled back.

Robinson (36 runs) and Jaydyn Simmons (34) combined for a gritty 61-run partnership before Robinson was dismissed.

Simmons and Burke (21) compiled a 32-run stand before the Lions broke through to reduce the home side to 6/109.

Jarred Lysaught (19), Iain Carlisle (18) and Webb (17) provided lower order resistance to get the Ghosts within striking distance.

At one stage, Campbelltown-Camden needed 15 runs to win with two wickets in hand.

However, the Lions fought back to pick up the final two wickets and secure a 12-run victory.

Param Uppal (4/25 off 20 overs) led the Lions’ bowling attack while captain Harmon Sandhu took 3/44 off 13 overs.

It was a frustrating weekend for Campbelltown-Camden with the Lions winning four out of their five contests.

The Lions second grade side recorded an emphatic seven-wicket win after dismissing Campbelltown-Camden for 54 runs.

Fairfield Liverpool’s third and fifth grade teams each recorded four-wicket victories on the weekend.

The fourth grade clash was washed out.

Campbelltown-Camden starts a two-day fixture against St George at Raby Oval this Saturday.
