The Harrington Park Hockey club is gearing up for another successful season following their three Metropolitan South West Hockey Association premierships in 208.
The club won the overall association club champion and a slew of their indoor hockey players have just returned with a swag of National Championship Medals representing NSW and ACT in the Hockey Australia National Indoor Hockey Championships.
Eight players, one coach and two umpires flew the flag for Harrington Park at the nationals.
Taylah Jones, Brayden Sutherland and Kye Sutherland helped the under-13s NSW team to the national championships’ gold medal.
Ella Fielding, coached by Andrew Parker, was a silver medalist with the under-15s NSW team. They went down in a shootout.
Taylah Parker and Emma O’Brien helped steer the under-21 NSW squad to gold medal victory.
Taylor Thompson picked up a silver medal – and was named player of the tournament – in the under-21s for ACT.
Josh Gregory scored a gold medal with the NSW open men, pipping Troy Sutherland’s silver medal-winning ACT open men.
Claudia Hartas and Taylor Parker both umpired during the tournament.
Club president Sandy Parker is appealing to anyone in the Macarthur region – and beyond – who is keen to give hockey a go to attend the club’s ‘come and try’ day in February.
“Hockey is a sport that caters for ages four and up, with competitions suited to all abilities,” she said.
“Beginners are always welcome.
“We really encourage families to come and try the sport first and then register and play in a weekly organised competition.
“All games are played on synthetic turf at Narellan and game times are generally the same one or two timeslots each week.”
The events will be held at Narellan Hockey Fields (Porrende Street) and run by the club’s NSW representatives.
Attendees will be introduced to the players, learn some basic skills and have a great time in the friendly atmosphere.
All new players under 11 years of age will get a free hockey starter kit (with a stick, ball and bag) upon registration.
Playing fees can be reduced by a $100 NSW Government Active Kids program subsidy.
The ‘come and try’ days will be held on Monday, February 18, Monday, February 25 and Monday, March 4, from 6pm to 7.30pm.
