Are you struggling to find time to pick up those last-minute Christmas presents?

This year’s final late night shopping in Picton will be held on Thursday, December 13.

Most shops in town will remain open until at least 8pm, but that could be extended depending on popularity.

Late night shopping has taken place each Thursday in recent weeks and has proven a winner for business owners such as Kim Roulston.

Ms Roulston said she had even kept her Hippy Luxe store open until nearly 11pm in late November.

“We get a lot of workers or people coming home from the major shopping centres,” she said.

“It’s been lovely to see so many businesses open at night.

“Having that local support is vital.”

Late night shopping is supported by the Picton Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber vice-president Renato Moolhuyzen said the initiative began four years ago and had helped several Picton shops pick up a “real customer following”.

Mr Moolhuyzen said the town’s business owners decided on starting late night shopping in Picton.

“There are some shops in town that benefit from staying open late,” he said.

“The shops stay open until at least 8pm and then it goes on a feel basis, if lots of people are still around.”
