Macarthur boys win Softball NSW Under-13s State Championship

The Macarthur Softball Association is creating a dynasty at state tournaments.

Macarthur’s under-13s boys team won the Softball NSW State Championship earlier this month at Glenmore Park’s Surveyors Creek Softball Complex.

It is the fourth successive year that Macarthur has taken home the under-13s title.

The club also secured wins at the boys under-15s, under-17s and under-19s state championships in 2018.

Macarthur under-13s coach Tim Darby said he was delighted to continue the winning form at state level.

“We are very pleased, I’ve been working with a number of guys in this team for years,” he said.

“Our players came from all across Macarthur as well as Hill Top and Hoxton Park.

“Players gravitate towards Macarthur because we have strong softball programs.”

Macarthur remained undefeated during the under-13s tournament, which culminated in a 13-0 win over Southern Districts in the final.

Darby said his team dominated its opponents both in offense and defence.

He said matches were held under hot conditions across the two-day tournament.

“I think we scored over 100 runs and conceded only 12 runs,” he said.

“We always elect to bat first because we back ourselves to bat well.

“But our pitching was also our strength. We had three guys who we were able to rotate and keep fresh.”

Darby has coached the under-13s side to five state titles since taking charge in 2012.

He thanked his assistant coaches Harrison Pudner and Brady Shears for their support.

“I actually coached Harrison and Brady to the under-13s title win in 2012 and now they are my assistants,” he said.

“The Macarthur association has a history of winning.”

Macarthur’s under-13 girls team also performed well at Glenmore Park in early November.

They finished runner-up, losing 9-2 to Cumberland Nepean in the final.
