Macarthur boys win Softball NSW Under-15s State Championship

The Macarthur under-15s boys softball team has secured a second successive state title win.

Macarthur were undefeated at the the Softball NSW Under-15s State Championship on the weekend at Blacktown International Sportspark.

The result caps a remarkable run of form for the Macarthur under-15s who won last year’s tournament and finished runners-up in both 2015 and 2016.

The team consisted of players from the Softball Macarthur Association.

Macarthur head coach Alex Cooper said he was “extremely proud” of his team’s effort on the weekend.

“These boys are just awesome,” he said.

“Everyone fielded, everyone batted and they all did an awesome job on the weekend.”

Macarthur dominated play from the outset at the 2018 championship.

The side scored 78 runs during the preliminary rounds while conceding just two.

Macarthur’s lowest game score was 14, which was in the semi-final which the side won 14-7 against Penrith.

Macarthur secured the title win with a 15-2 win against Penrith in the final on Sunday afternoon.

The champions finished the tournament with 107 runs and conceded just 11 runs in six games.

Cooper said his team proved too strong for the rest of the competition.

“It was just an awesome effort from everyone,” he said.

Cooper said Macarthur’s youngest player was aged 11 years.

“All of our youngest players were great,” he said.

“I think we will have six or six players return next year for our under-15s team and hopefully we can keep that good form going.”

Riley Sutcliffe, 14, was named Macarthur’s most valuable player as voted by his teammates and coaches on the weekend.

Riley said he was pleased with his team’s form during the tournament.

“It feels good working together as a team,” he said.

“We really came together well and it was good to put weeks of training into play.

“I was here when we won last year so this was an extra special performance.”

The title win caps an impressive fortnight for the Softball Macarthur Association.

Macarthur’s under-15s girls side finished equal third at the state championships on the weekend of September 15 and 16.
