While many people focus their time and resources renovating inside their home, there is certainly money to be made outside as well. Pools are being introduced more frequently to provide fun outdoor entertaining and relaxation areas, while adding value to your property.

There are trends when it comes to decorating the inside and outside of your home, so it stands to reason there are also trends when it comes to pools and spas. Pools come in many different varieties and sizes to match the style of your property, and your needs and budget.

Currently sleek contemporary styles remain on trend, with angular pools using straight lines and glass fencing to make a statement in their outdoor entertaining areas. Another popular approach is to use curves, soft colour palettes and natural stones to seamlessly blend your pool in with your garden, creating a relaxing oasis.

Plant choice is always a hot topic of debate and your choices will vary depending on how much time you have to maintain your garden and keep your pool clean.

Plants like palm trees and agave attenuatas are great as they have strong foliage and don’t shed small leaves cluttering up your pool. For a splash of colour cannas are ideal, while cordylines and ribbon grasses are perfect for low level colour that requires little maintenance. The addition of potted flowers along with garden ornaments, artworks and features such as waterfalls, are great ways to add style to your pool area.
