Blue Ribbon Quality Meats set to compete at NSW/ACT Smallgoods Competition

Leumeah butcher Nathan Ayres hopes to prove that his product is a cut above the rest.

The Blue Ribbon Quality Meats owner has five entries in tomorrow’s (September 13) Australian Meat Industry Council NSW/ACT Smallgoods Competition at Granville TAFE.

Mr Ayres will put up his best corn silverside, pastrami, boneless ham, bone-in ham and middle cut bacon for the AMIC judging panel.

Mr Ayres, who has 20 years of industry experience, said it was the first time he had entered the smallgoods competition but he hoped to secure at least one top placing.

“I wanted to test what I’ve made against others and thought that I’d give the competition a red-hot crack,” Mr Ayres said.

“I’m backing my products to do well and you can make a real name for yourself by winning awards but I’ll be up against some good butchers.”

The AMIC competition allows independent local butchers and specialist smallgoods manufacturers to showcase their products.

Winners in each category receive a special plaque and placegetters are given ribbons.
