Labor councillors George Brticevic and Darcy Lound were last night sworn in as Campbelltown’s mayor and deputy mayor for the next two years.

The night marked the beginning of Cr Brticevic’s second two-year term in the top job, and Cr Lound’s first foray into deputy mayorship.

Cr Lound took over from councillor Meg Oates – Campbelltown’s longest serving councillor – in the deputy mayor role.

Fellow councillors were quick to praise the pair for their well-earned positions.

Greens councillor Ben Moroney congratulated Cr Lound on his “demotion from mayor of Minto” to his new role, while Independent councillor Bob Thompson said Cr Brticevic had already done a “marvellous job sitting in the chair”.

Cr Brticevic said he was honoured to continue serving Campbelltown as the mayor and looked forward to watching the city grow.

“We have achieved a lot of things as a cohesive council and I thank the community for their support,” he said.

“The next two years will be an exciting time.

“I want to thank Cr Oates from the bottom of my heart for her dedication as deputy mayor over the past two years.

“I look forward to working with the ‘mayor of Minto’ as my new deputy mayor.”

Cr Brticevic said he had known Cr Lound for 25 years, since they played soccer together for the Macarthur Rams.

“I think our body shapes were quite different then,” he joked.

Cr Lound said he was proud to wear the Deputy Mayor chains after Cr Oates.

“There could have been no better servant of Campbelltown,” he said of her work.

“I want to thank my fellow Labor councillors for the great work they continue to do and all my other fellow councillors – I have enjoyed working with you.”

Cr Lound also thanked Campbelltown’s state and federal members for their “great support”.

Both Cr Brticevic and Cr Lound were the only councillors to nominate for the mayor and deputy mayor positions.
