Disaster was narrowly averted on Picton Road on Sunday.
About 4pm, the road was temporarily closed at Cataract due to a truck fire.
Emergency services rushed to the scene as the vehicle’s trailer was carrying more than 30,000 litres of diesel.
Fortunately, only the truck cabin was alight and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
The truck’s cabin was completely destroyed by the fire.
The driver was not injured.
All lanes were reopened on Picton Road by 5.30pm.
Earlier on Sunday, there was a separate incident involving a truck on Picton Road.
About 3.45pm, emergency services were called to a truck and motorcycle crash.
The motorcyclist, a man believed to be in his mid-to-late 30s, was transported to Wollongong Hospital.
He was was suffering from abrasions and other injuries.
