Things are looking a little different at one of Campbelltown’s most popular recreation spaces.

Campbelltown PCYC, at Minto, was officially reopened last week after undergoing a significant renovation.

The works included the construction of a brand new wing, featuring a gymnasium and full-size boxing ring.

The official opening was attended by a number of special guests, including local politicians, state police and emergency services minister Troy Grant and NSW Police commander of youth and crime prevention Superintendent David Roptell.

PCYC NSW general manager of marketing and communications, Howard Barton, said the revamped facility was a big win for the community.

“It’s very exhilarating,” he said. “There’s already been an increase in membership since the reopening on Thursday and we expect that to continue.”

Boxing and gymnastics are two of the most popular activities offered by Campbelltown PCYC.

Mr Barton said some of the club’s dedicated boxers were thrilled to train with Swedish-Australian Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anja Stridsman at the reopening event.

The new gym and boxing ring are stage one of a planned revamp of the entire facility.

“This is just the first phase of a huge renovation of the rest of the club,” he said. “That will of course depend on whatever grants and donations we can secure to keep improving this great facility and living up to our motto – empowering young people.”

Into the action: Boxing is one of the most popular activities offered by the PCYC and the new boxing ring is already making an impact.
