Campbelltown’s best small businesses named at 2018 local business awards

Last night hundreds of people gathered at Wests League Club, Leumeah to celebrate Campbelltown’s best small businesses.

Finalists in the Campbelltown-Macarthur Local Business Awards waited with bated breath to find out if they would be one of the night’s winners.

Winners included King’s Charcoal Chicken, Doughlicious Lebanese Bakery, Coco Cubano and more.

The Business of the Year award went to King Homes.

Owners Veronica and Mark King said they were delighted with the win.

“It was incredible – we’re a relatively new business to the area and this is the first time we had entered the awards,” he said.

“It was exciting and a real honour.”

The building company also took home the award for Best Specialised Business.

“We’re a young business as my husband only started it about five years ago,” Mr King said.

“A lot of the businesses in the area had been here for 25 or more years so were we honoured to be recognised amongst them.

“We are luck to have a very hard-working team.”

Lesley Thomas of Bright Sparks Early Learning at Appin took home the award for Business Person of the Year.

“I was in shock, I think my words were taken away and I am never speechless,” she said.

Bright Sparks also took home the award for Best Childcare Business.

Mrs Thomas and her sister Lauren have owned and operated the childcare centre for the past seven years.

“Early childhood education is a role that comes with a great deal of responsibility but it is hugely rewarding,” she said.

“I love the impact that we have on childrens’ lives, interacting with families and learning with them as we go along.

“I think early childcare is one of the most important jobs in the world.

“We are lucky to work with an amazing team of educators – you can have the best facility in the world but it is the people that truly make it the best.”
