Oakdale Workers have withdrawn from the 2018 Country Rugby League Group 6 first grade competition.
The side were forced to forfeit twice in recent weeks due to a large injury toll.
Under Group 6 rules, teams are expelled from the competition if they forfeit a third time in the one season.
After the second forfeit against the Moss Vale Dragons in late May, Group 6 chief executive officer Stephen Hazelton told the Advertiser he was confident the side would not need to withdraw from the competition.
However, a statement from the club was put on the Oakdale Workers RLFC Facebook page this afternoon confirming the teams withdrawal.
See the full statement below.
The Board wishes to inform all stakeholders and supporters of the OWRLFC that we will be withdrawing from the Group 6 first grade competition effective immediately.
At this time The club can no longer continue scraping together a side on a week to week basis and feel it is not a viable option to continue in this manner.
The hard working efforts of Dane Wooden have been admirable, however he has been let down by a lot of factors and people beyond his control. I would like to thank him for his efforts and service and he has pledged to continue helping out with reserve Grade on a more casual basis until seasons end.
The football club will be holding an Extraordinary General Meeting at The Oakdale Workers Club on Thursday 5/7/18 at 7:30pm to discuss this matter and the future of any prospective First Grade teams.
