What started out as a creative outlet has turned into two novels for The Oaks’ Samantha Levy.
The 28-year-old has published her second novel, Starlit, in the Reigntime series.
The young adult paranormal fictional series is set in a contemporary, urban Australia.
Reigntime, which was published two years ago, follows the story of 17-year-old nursing student Lexie.
When on clinical placement, she meets someone who is not what he seems. It turns out he is not human and Lexie is pulled into an adventure with him.
“Reigntime is for a young adult audience and Starlit is darker and for a slightly older audience,” Ms Levy said.
“As the characters grow up they deal with more complex issues. I am happy the new book is now out.”
The author will discuss her book and writing process at a book talk at Narellan Town Centre’s Harry Hartog Booksellers on Saturday, June 16 from 11am.
Ms Levy said her love of reading and writing started as a child.
“Mum and Dad always encouraged me to read,” she said. “I started writing as a creative outlet and I studied at university.
“The idea for Reigntime popped into my head.
“I wrote it throughout university and by the end I had a book. I loved the book and writing so I thought ‘why not try to make a career?’”
Ms Levy said she made up creatures and her own language, and had maps designed.
The novel is also set in Australia, the characters use slang and travel to Kakadu.
The self-published book is available at Harry Hartog’s in Narellan Town Centre. It can be ordered from all major online booksellers and in stores.
