Martin ‘The Situ-Asian’ Nguyen is heading into his next fight with a new win to his name.
The Narellan Vale fighter took on an old foe last month to defend his One Championship Featherweight World Title.
Nguyen faced top contender Christian ‘The Warrior’ Lee at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The last time they faced each other Nguyen easily beat Lee - this time it came down to a split decision.
“We went into the fight as the underdogs even though I had the championship already,” he said.
“I was heading into enemy territory and I knew the fight would be a little difficult.”
Nguyen said Lee was a tougher competitor this time around and had just come off a four-fight winning streak.
“The fight was very explosive but he didn’t make any moves that I was surprised about,” he said,
“He landed a few good punches and takedowns but I hurt him a few times too.
“The fight went for the whole 25 minutes and came down to a split decision in the end.”
Nguyen also holds the Light Weight World Title making him the third mixed martial arts fighter in the world to hold simultaneous world titles.
He wants a third world championship and hopes to achieve that goal in July when he takes on Kevin ‘The Silencer’ Belingon for the bantamweight title.
“This will be a chance to redeem myself,” he said.
“We fought before and it was a split decision and I lost so this is my second chance to win.
“Belingon is considered to be a top contender and I am honoured to share the cage with him again.
“A fight’s a fight and it could go either way – it depends on who really shows up on the day.”
The fight will take place in Belingon’s home town near Manilla in the Philippines on July 27.
