Ambarvale schools placed in lockdown

Two Ambarvale schools went into lockdown after learning a police operation was under way in the suburb earlier today.

Ambarvale High School and Ambarvale Public School advised, via their Facebook pages, that they went into lockdown as a safety precaution.

Both posts said all children were safe.

Campbelltown City Police Area Command Chief Inspector Dean Smith said police were searching for a man wanted for outstanding matters.

“The search involved PolAir, police dogs and general duties officers,” he said.

“The man was not located.

“The police operation has concluded and police are continuing their inquiries.”

Chief Inspector Smith said rumours that the man was armed with a gun were completely false.

The chief inspector said the operation was not in response to any crimes committed today.
