Ryan Tomsett is Australia’s fastest nine-year-old – on four wheels that is.
The Harrington Park resident recently took out the Australian Karting Championships held in Victoria last weekend.
Ryan went into the race 10 points behind the leader but his dad Scott Tomsett said he pushed hard for the title.
“It all came down to that last race,” he said.
“We had some engine trouble earlier in the year and the finals were wet and rainy but Ryan pulled out the fastest time on the track and won the championship.”
Ryan has been racing for a few years and he said he enjoyed the sport.
“I love the speed, the competition, the karts and I love winning races as well. I want to race in the Formula One one day,” he said.
Last year Ryan became the youngest person to win the national title.
He said it was ‘awesome’ to win the championship for the second year in a row.
“I was so happy when I came in, I fought hard for the whole year and to win in the last round was awesome,” he said.
Toyota 86 racer and Oran Park resident Tim Brook noticed Ryan’s talent and urged Mr Tomsett to nurture it.
Mr Tomsett said Ryan would compete at the NSW state title event next weekend in Picton.
“We’re hoping to take him to Europe to have a go at some races over there next year,” Mr Tomsett said.
