Spare a thought for those residents living in Penrith this afternoon, which has been battered by hailstones.
The Penrith Panthers shared a photo on their Twitter page that showed Pepper Stadium resembling an ice rink (see below).

This afternoonâs thunderstorm in the Wollondilly Shire has attracted plenty of response on social media.
Some of the comments left on the Campbelltown-Macarthur Advertiser Facebook page included:

The Macarthur has been hit by a storm this afternoon, February 17.
Just before 2pm, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of NSW, including the Macarthur region.
The BOM advised the storm may produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next few hours.

Weatherzone predicted a top temperature of 37 degrees in the Campbelltown area today and warned about a late thunderstorm.

During a thunderstorm, the State Emergency Service (SES) provides the following advice:
- Move your car under cover or away from trees.
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
- Keep at least eight metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
- Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid on 131 388, or Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or Essential Energy on 132 080, as shown on your power bill.
- Unplug computers and appliances.
- Avoid using the phone during the storm.
- Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
