Narellan speedster races to a podium finish

When Ayden Elliott decided to try his hand at racing Compact Speedcars this year, he never imagined he would achieve a podium finish.

After blowing an engiene at the beginning of the season the Narellan resident only took art in three races leading up to the Victorian Title race.

Elliott certainly impressed throughout the event, despite still experiencing overheating issues with his newly-rebuilt engine.

The 22-year-old racer knew that he would need to maintain his composure if he was to make his way through to the pointy-end of the field, and that’s exactly what he did.

“I’m really pleased our performance throughout the Victorian Title and coming away with third place definitely does a lot for my confidence heading into the rest of the season,” he said.

Elliott was on the tail of second-placed Craig Hickey in the last 10 laps of the race but was unable to pass him on the one-lane race track.

The avid racer said the win was a career highlight.

“Despite the overheating issues we’ve been experiencing, which we’re hoping to have solved prior to our next hit out, the car has been handling great, so we’re looking forward to seeing what else we can achieve for the rest of the season,” he said.

Elliott will compete in the eighth NSW Club Championship round at Nowra Speedway this Saturday night.

He then plans to return to the Nowra track to compete in the NSW Title on the Saturday, March 3.
