It has been 10 years since former prime minister Kevin Rudd addressed parliament to offer a National Apology to Australia’s Indigenous people.
On Friday, February 16, Link-Up Aboriginal Corporation will host an event at the Australia Botanic Garden, Mount Annan to commemorate this milestone
A Link-Up spokeswoman said the event would feature a formal ceremony, a smoking ceremony, a welcome to country and a video presentation.
“This event is to celebrate our Stolen Generations, raise awareness of the importance of acknowledging and addressing the effects of intergenerational trauma, increase understanding of the healing needs of Stolen Generation members and celebrate the strength of Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians working together,” she said.
“This event is free and open to all – members of the Stolen Generation and their families are particularly welcome to attend.”
Guests will also hear stories from some members of the Stolen Generation.
The event will be held at the botanic garden’s Bowden Centre from 11am with an official welcome.
A ‘bush tucka’ lunch will be supplied for all guests.
Places are limited so registration is essential.
