Simply Bushed's new song laments the end of Holden

Holden cars have inspired many people, but it was the factory's closure earlier this year that inspired Simply Bushed's new song, No More Holdens.

Paul Grierson and Chris Rieger wrote the song to celebrate Australian manufacturing and commiserate its demise.

When the last Australian made Holden rolled off the production line, fans mourned the loss of car manufacturing in the country.

This played on the minds of Mr Grierson and Mr Rieger and No More Holdens was born.

“The issue here is, as Australians, we need to hold onto our homegrown industries and support them,” Mr Reiger said.

“It is a tragedy to lose Holden as it is so iconic.”

Mr Grierson said there were Holden lovers across the country who were left devastated by the loss of the Australian made vehicle.

“I’ve been brought up as a Holden boy, far more than a mode of transport for myself and so many Aussies,” he said.

“I have had many Holdens, so seeing the last one manufactured impacted me so much I had to write it down.”

The band headed to Tamworth to record their album, Here and Now – released on January 26 next year – and decided to shoot a video of them playing the song acoustically and upload it to Facebook.

The song touched a nerve with Simply Bushed fans in a massive way, hitting 30,000 views within hours and is currently sitting at more than 80,000 views with 1500 shares on social media.

With such an outpouring of support from their fans, the band gathered the troops, and 52 Holdens, and shot a music video at Glassy’s Gasoline Garage in Kootingal, north of Tamworth, with James Fox from The Filmery behind the camera.

“We were so grateful to Tamworth and all the Holden owners for getting behind us and helping make the film clip what it is,” Mr Grierson said.

The Tamworth Classic Holden Car Club members and Holden-loving Tamworthians who saw the music video announcement on social media turned out in droves to have their vehicles star in this historic moment.

No More Holdens will be released on Friday, December 8.

The single is lifted from Simply Bushed’s upcoming album, Here and Now, which will be released in Tamworth on January 26.
