The East Campbelltown Eagles have held off the Asquith Magpies for a tight 24-22 win.

The Eagles travelled to Asquith missing a host of regular players including Fred Tevega, Adam Soultan, Chris Standing, Jordan Strickland and Ben Baker. So it was left to several under 19s players to fill the void.

The Eagles opened the scoring shortly after kick-off however the Magpies hit back almost immediately to lock up the scores at 6-6.

A try to the Craig Moustakas saw the Eagles lead by six at half time. The Magpies opened the scoring in the second half before two more tries to Moustakas saw the scoreline blow out.

A try to the Magpies in the last four minutes set up a grandstand finish but the Eagles held on.

Coach Richard Barnes said “to defeat a top four team with so many guys out has made our club very proud”.
