She’s been modelling for less than a year but Jessica Gillett is already making waves.
The Silverdale bikini model and fitness fanatic was voted the NSW Face of Origin in a recent competition, topped her group in an internationally-voted magazine competition and will compete in another show in Queensland next weekend.
She went into modelling as a sceptic but now Ms Gillett is proud to be a part of the community.
“I had a perception there was a lot of cattiness in modelling going in,” she said.
“But everything I’ve seen and done so far is the opposite of that. It’s a very supportive community and everyone keeps you going.”
Ms Gillett, who owns Orchid Belle Beauty salon in Luddenham, said she planned to focus more on her fitness modelling and would one day like to try her hand at body sculpting competitions.
She enjoys photoshoots far more than walking the catwalk.
“I’ve never been very comfortable walking in heels,” she said. “That’s definitely my weakness – but photoshoots are my element.”
Ms Gillett is looking forward to competing in the Fit Bikini Model Extravaganza on the Gold Coast on Sunday.
She was named ‘Miss Girlfriend’ – “which is essentially Miss Personality” – in an earlier round.
Ms Gillett said she was both excited and nervous for the competition but was ready to have a great time get her hair and makeup done.
She has also progressed in the Miss Jetset competition, run by Jetset magazine in Arizona, topping her group of 60 applicants in a fan vote.
The competition supports and raises money for the Be Positive children’s cancer charity. The overall winner will be announced in October.
