Children were among the 22 people who died in a suicide attack at the Manchester Arena in the UK.
A bomb exploded just outside the Arena at 10.35pm UK time (7.35am AEST) at end of a concert by singer Ariana Grande.
Grande had just finished her set when two ‘loud bangs’ were heard. Footage shows fans screaming and trying to run out of the Arena.
The Arena was packed with thousands of gig-goers, many who were teenagers, who attempted to flee the scene.
A dashcam captured the loud noise echoing around the city at the time of the bombing in the below footage.
The incident is being treated as a terror attack with the attacker using an improvised explosive device.
As Manchester woke up to the devastating news the city’s official were able to shed more light on the horrors of the night before.
Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said the bomber died at the Arena.
He would not be drawn on rumours that the bomb could have used nails. He said: "This is a very fast-moving investigation. We are saying it was an improvised explosive device, but I can't give any further details than that at this stage."
Manchester City Council leader Sir Richard Leese said: "Manchester is today waking up to the most difficult of dawns. It is hard to believe what has happened here in the last few hours and to put into words what has happened here.
“This was an evil act. Our first thoughts are with the families of those killed and injured and we will do what every we can to support them.
“Today is business as usual as far as possible in our great city."
