Before the fall, she was a healthy mother of two who planned on working as a hairdresser when her children reached school age.
Afterwards, she was unable to work or carry out simple domestic chores.
Meng Khim Heang, 36, was walking in a Sydney fruit shop when she slipped and fell heavily on the right side of her body.
As a result, she suffered soft tissue damage to her neck, shoulder, arm and lower back and was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder.
On Friday, the NSW District Court found she was entitled to $660,545 in damages, almost half of which was compensation for future economic loss.
Ms Heang suffered the injuries as she was shopping at Thien An Fresh Fruit at Cabramatta in Sydney's west.
"The evidence satisfactorily established that the plaintiff's injuries, the treatment she has obtained, and the remaining disabilities she has been left with, were all incurred and caused by the subject fall," Judge Leonard Levy wrote in a judgment.
"She was also considerably shaken by the experience. Since that time, she has had ongoing pain, restriction of movement and discomfort in those areas, as well as experiencing headaches and distressing psychological symptoms."
Judge Leonard found Ms Heang was significantly restricted in her movements, making it hard for her to work in her previous job as a supermarket shelf stacker at Coles.
"She remains significantly depressed and anxious due to the effects of her injuries.
"The combined effect of those problems is to adversely impact upon the plaintiff's ability to work and to carry out her pre-accident domestic activities."
For future economic loss, Ms Heang was awarded $305,040 and $43,254 for loss of superannuation.
As part of the compensation, Ms Heang was also entitled to $83,843 for past and future domestic assistance.
"I accept the plaintiff's account that, historically, she fulfilled her pre-accident household and domestic tasks without difficulty and without assistance," Judge Levy wrote.
"I also accept, but for the accident, the plaintiff's described inability to person those tasks would not have arisen."
